Congratulations Jalisa Karim, Vanier Scholar!

Congratulations to PhD student Jalisa Karim, who is a 2024 Vanier Scholar! We are very excited for Jalisa to continue her research in the WACH program.

Jalisa’s research project is: Endometriosis Treatments and Pregnancy Outcomes: Associations and Experiences.

Endometriosis is a chronic condition that affects approximately 1 million people in Canada. It occurs when tissue similar to the inner lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterus. Tissue from endometriosis often grows in other organs of the reproductive system, which can lead to infertility. Jalisa’s project will use quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate which endometriosis treatments are associated with certain pregnancy outcomes, by analyzing data from females diagnosed with endometriosis in BC, and interviewing endometriosis patients. These results will help patients and physicians understand how patients decide on treatment options, and how to best support patients in informed decision-making.

Vanier Scholarships are offered to top incoming and current doctoral students.
